Haruko Nakamura - Photography Exhibition
The exhibition will take place simultaneously in three locations in Val d'Orcia, Tuscany, Italy, from April 5th to 28th, 2025.
Fleeting moments in the Val d'Orcia of the 90s
Light, wind, earth... Val d'Orcia, Tuscany, an iconic place that has deeply charmed photographer Haruko Nakamura. In her touching photographs, Haruko expresses the universal relationship between nature, mankind and the joy of living.
From 1993 to 1998, Haruko Nakamura was so fascinated by Val d'Orcia that she traveled there many times from Japan - seven times in a single year! - to capture and document the rhythms of nature and life in every season.
Her photography, endowed with a fresh sensitivity, radiates a world full of light and captures the charm of Val d'Orcia and its splendid landscapes.
Haruko's gentle sensitivity has allowed her to meet and create a friendship with an elderly couple of former sharecroppers, Ivo and Ilda. Their daily life, still based on traditions handed down since the Renaissance, captured vividly and colorfully by Haruko Nakamura's lens, pushes us to ask ourselves what is truly important to us who live in the modern era.
20 years later , photographs and testimonies remembering Haruko
Year 2025. Twenty years have passed since Nakamura left us. The three photographic exhibitions that will be held in Val d'Orcia during this period are kindly organized by Lorenza Santo, owner of Casa dell'Abate Naldi in San Quirico d'Orcia, with whose family Haruko had a long-standing relationship.
We would like to thank Kaori Shiina and Riccardo Nardi, owners of the nearby craft and design gallery Manufacto Store, and Luisa Cipolla, (daughter of Lorenza, portrayed as a child in Haruko's photos) and her husband Matthias Ruge, owners of Agriturismo Il Rigo for their collaboration and kindness.
The exhibition will display about 50 pieces, each selected from the photography book "The Sound of Light - pure and simple".
The opening is on Saturday, April 5, with a refreshment and a conversation about the changes in Val d'Orcia since the 90s.
Photographer Haruko Nakamura, who passed away at the age of 43, lived her life with photography.
Come and enjoy the brilliance of her shots in Val d'Orcia, unaware testimonies of a world that is changing more quickly than we would like.
